Case Study - Interventional Vascular Institute (IVI)

Located in San Jose with a staff of 30, Interventional Vascular Institute (IVI) is one of the primary medical offices for outpatient surgery where interventional radiologists and endovascular surgeons perform their procedures. THEIR NEEDS

In the winter of 2011, IVI was facing major challenges with their aging network infrastructure, servers and desktops since it was affecting the productivity of staff and reliability of patient data. They were also looking into implementing a comprehensive backup, disaster recovery and business continuity for their mission critical servers with no or minimal interaction by staff. The plan required to define maximum downtime windows with complete offsite backup and business continuity. IVI also needed to implement an imaging server for image reconstruction and 3D modeling.

THEIR SOLUTION

Referred to IVI by one of the existing clients, Referred to IVI by one of the existing clients, TruAdvantage completed a free network health check for IVI and migrated their 4 physical servers into a virtual infrastructure using 2 Dell PowerEdge servers and VMWare ESX. The 2nd Dell server provided high availability (HA) in case one of the servers failed. A new Vital image server and colored DICOM printers were researched and implemented for patient image 3D modeling. THEIR RESULTS

High availability via virtualization has maximized the up-time of mission critical applications and servers including SBS 2010, Vital imaging and EMR servers to approximately 99.9 %. A copy of all servers are duplicated both onsite and offsite using total DATAPROTECT solution. In the event of data corruption or full server failure, IVI can failover to the standby servers and be back in business in minutes. Even in case of fire or any catastrophe that might make IVI’s main office inhabitable, IVI can failover to standby servers at TruAdvantage’s secure datacenters within minutes and keep working.
